Welcome and Introduction
Hi! Welcome to my blog. I am so glad you are here. Here on this blog, I will explore the world of technology through the lens of an educator, and try to apply what I learn to my future practice as a teacher! This will be done through reflections, group projects, and an inquiry of my choice. I’ve decided to focus on sustainable fashion, and how to foster creativity and individuality with fashion, and I hope to connect this to the classroom!
But, perhaps you wonder how I got here. I took the long way around before I decided I wanted to be a teacher. If you had asked me five years ago if I thought I would be here, my answer would probably be a big no. For most of my high-school experience, I wanted to be a nurse. But when COVID hit in grade 12, and I was forced to finish school online, my grades quickly declined and I began to question my career choice. So, before I invested my money into post-secondary education, I decided to take some time away from school until I was sure what I wanted to do with my life. In this time, I moved to Vancouver, moved home, worked, taught dance, and travelled Europe. When I returned from my trip to Europe in January of 2024, I felt a sudden urge to return to school. I was almost 21, and felt an internal clock ticking inside of me. It was time. After instructing dance for a year, I realized I enjoyed working with children, so I began to look into careers that work with children. Then, on a random weekday in April of 2024, my mom returned from work. She began to tell me that she met two young women who were about to start their post-degree in teaching. She explained to them that I was interested in working with children, and they urged her to encourage me to pursue teaching. That afternoon, I applied (late) to university. After receiving my acceptance, I moved to Nanaimo to attend VIU. Here, I worked towards my transfer to UVIC, got accepted, and then moved to Victoria in September of 2025. And, that brings me to now!
While it took me a while to get here, I couldn’t be more pleased in my decision to become a teacher. I feel like I really belong here. So, follow along as I continue this journey into teaching!
