Free Inquiry – Sustainable Fashion in a Fast Moving World
Fashion is very special to me. As an aesthetically driven person, I enjoy the creativity and individuality I am able to express through my choice of clothes and accessories. In our current world, however, trend cycles move quickly, with micro-trends encouraging consumption of fast-fashion that ends up in the landfill a few months later. Sometimes, it’s hard to distinguish between individual style preferences versus the trends that are constantly pushed upon us. Many of us have probably bought something only to realize that it doesn’t actually align with our personal style, we bought it to appeal to a certain trend or aesthetic that has been continuously suggested to us. It is so easy to consume fashion, without putting much thought behind the purchases we are making.
Thus, my inquiry project was inspired. How can fashion be challenged to be slow and sustainable, but also include inspiration from modern and current fashion trends, while developing personal style and individuality? And how can this apply to education?
For this project, I am excited to further dive into sustainable fashion while exploring development of diverse personal style, with hopes to incorporate what I learn into my professional life as a teacher. Some areas I would like to touch on include:
- community building through fashion
- digital look books
- identifying and developing personal style
- how to incorporate fashion trends into personal style while maintaining sustainable practices
- trend cycles, social media, and the effects on individuality in fashion
- categorization of fashion, and the shackles of appealing to a certain “aesthetic”
- and more, as I continue to learn during this inquiry!

Stay tuned as I explore the world of conscious, sustainable fashion while being playful and having fun with my own personal style!
